Big Relief for J&K Employees: Eligible NPS Employees Get Option to Switch to Old Pension Scheme
Jammu, October 4: In a significant development for employees appointed against vacancies advertised before the implementation of the New Pension Scheme, the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has invited eligible employees to exercise their option for switching over from the New Pension Scheme (NPS) to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in terms of Government Order No. 305-F of 2026 dated September 28, 2026, issued by the Finance Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir.
The Finance Department order provides an opportunity to eligible employees who were appointed on or after January 1, 2010, but whose posts/vacancies had been advertised or notified for recruitment before December 24, 2009, subject to fulfilment of the prescribed conditions.
Following the issuance of the Government Order, the High Court has issued its own order inviting eligible employees of the High Court to exercise the prescribed option. The employees are required to submit Annexure-A, along with supporting documents establishing their eligibility.
The documents required include the recruitment advertisement/notification, selection list, appointment order, PRAN card and duly attested Service Book, among other relevant records.
The High Court has directed the eligible employees of its Jammu Wing to submit the option form by October 5, 2026, for further necessary action.
The development is likely to bring considerable relief to employees whose recruitment process had commenced before the cut-off date but whose appointments took place subsequently due to delays in the selection or appointment process.
The Government Order lays down the conditions and procedure governing the exercise of the option, while the High Court's latest order facilitates its implementation in respect of its eligible employees.
Employees falling within the prescribed category have therefore been advised to submit their option and supporting documents within the stipulated time to avoid missing the opportunity.
