Kisan Mela-cum-Fruit and Flower Exhibition Organised in Leh
Leh, September 5, 2026: The Department of Horticulture, Leh organised a Kisan Mela-cum-Fruit and Flower Exhibition at the office complex of the Chief Horticulture Officer, Leh, with participation from more than 250 farmers, officers, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), entrepreneurs and representatives of NGOs.
The programme was inaugurated by Shri Ashish Kundra, IAS, Chief Secretary, UT Ladakh, in the presence of Shri Tsewang Tharchin, IA&AS, Commissioner/Secretary, Finance Department, who attended as the Guest of Honour, along with senior officers and other dignitaries.
In his welcome address, Shri Tsewang Punchok, Director of Horticulture, highlighted the present scenario and progress of the horticulture sector in Ladakh and outlined various initiatives being undertaken by the department under different schemes.
On the occasion, the Annual Report of the Department of Horticulture was also released by the Chief Secretary.
The dignitaries visited stalls displaying a wide range of horticultural produce and innovations, including fruits, flowers, value-added products, mushroom production and modern horticultural tools and machinery. The Chief Secretary appreciated the efforts of the Horticulture Department and farmers in promoting the sector in Ladakh.
He also encouraged mushroom and flower entrepreneurs to enhance production to meet growing market demand and create greater economic opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs.
Certificates and mementoes were presented to outstanding FPOs and entrepreneurs in recognition of their contributions to the horticulture sector.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Smt. Kunzang Wangmo, Chief Horticulture Officer, Leh.
