Dr. Shaista Ganai’s Unwillingness for Deputy Medical Superintendent Post at GMC Srinagar Accepted
Srinagar, September 12, 2026:
The Jammu and Kashmir Health & Medical Education Department has accepted the unwillingness of Dr. Shaista Ganai for appointment to the post of Deputy Medical Superintendent, Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar.
The decision has been conveyed through Government Order No. 685-JK(HME) of 2026, dated September 10, 2026.
According to the order, the post had earlier been offered to Dr. Mohd. Sarwar Mir, who was appointed as Deputy Medical Superintendent through Government Order No. 97-JK(HME) of 2026 dated February 12, 2026. However, Dr. Sarwar Mir failed to report for duty within the stipulated 21-day period, following which his appointment was cancelled by the department through Government Order No. 518-JK(HME) of 2026 dated June 29, 2026.
Subsequently, the Health & Medical Education Department requested the Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) to recommend the next eligible candidate in order of merit under the relevant category against the resultant vacancy.
The JKPSC, through its communication dated July 17, 2026, recommended the candidature of Dr. Shaista Ganai, daughter of Ghulam Ahmed Ganai, resident of Ishber Nishat, as the next candidate in order of merit for appointment to the post.
The department thereafter issued a notice dated August 6, 2026, asking Dr. Shaista Ganai to furnish the requisite personal particulars. The latest government order deals with the acceptance of her unwillingness for the appointment.
The development clears the way for the department to take further action regarding the vacant post in accordance with the applicable rules and selection procedure.
