Srinagar, September 2, 2026: Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today inaugurated the 41st National Convention of Chemical Engineers and the National Seminar on “Biomass – A Sustainable Resource for Decarbonising the Economy” in Srinagar.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah highlighted the immense potential of Jammu & Kashmir’s agricultural, horticultural and forestry sectors, stating that biomass waste can be transformed into clean energy and used to create new economic opportunities.

He emphasised that the effective utilisation of biomass can contribute significantly towards reducing carbon emissions and building a greener, cleaner and more sustainable economy in Jammu & Kashmir.

The Chief Minister also called for stronger collaboration among academia, research institutions and industry to ensure that innovative ideas and technologies move from “lab to field” and translate into tangible outcomes for the people.

Highlighting the importance of engineers in the development process, Omar Abdullah said that engineers have a vital role in shaping J&K’s development story—not merely by building more, but by building better, smarter and sustainably.

The convention brought together experts, researchers, academicians, chemical engineers and industry representatives to deliberate on the potential of biomass and innovative approaches for sustainable development and decarbonisation.
