Srinagar, September 1: The Women’s Wing of the Apni Party, led by Dilshad Shaheen, staged a protest demonstration at Srinagar’s Press Colony on Tuesday, raising concerns over rising inflation, unemployment and what the party described as the government’s failure to fulfil its election promises.

According to a press statement issued by the party, women leaders and workers gathered at Press Colony and raised slogans against the government over various public issues and grievances.

Addressing reporters during the protest, Dilshad Shaheen alleged that the government had failed on several fronts and accused the ruling party of not fulfilling the commitments made to the people during the 2024 Assembly elections.

“This government has failed on every front, while the ruling party has miserably failed to fulfil the promises it made to the people during the elections,” Shaheen said, alleging that the people had been misled during the election campaign.

She said the Apni Party would continue to raise public issues and protest against what it described as the government’s failures.

Speaking on the occasion, party spokesperson Ishrat Bhat questioned the government over several election promises, including employment opportunities for unemployed youth and the regularisation of daily wagers.

Bhat asked where the promised one lakh jobs were, alleging that the ruling National Conference (NC) had committed to providing them within six months of assuming power.

She also raised concerns over the condition of daily wagers, stating that many were receiving low wages at a time when the cost of living was increasing.

Bhat further alleged that promises regarding 200 units of free electricity, free gas cylinders and an increase in ration quota had not been fulfilled. She claimed that instead, electricity tariffs had been increased, adding to the financial burden on households.

The protest was attended by several Apni Party leaders and workers, including Provincial Secretary Shiraza Malik, former DDC member Lethpora Meema G, Senior Leader Afroza Khan, Rafiqa Ji, Nighat and Sumeera, among others.

The protesters called for concrete measures to address inflation, unemployment and other issues affecting the people.
