Union Health Ministry Holds NLEP Workshop to Strengthen Leprosy Control Efforts

New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare organised a review-cum-capacity building workshop under the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) to strengthen leprosy control measures and accelerate efforts towards interruption of transmission.

The workshop brought together health officials, technical experts and partner organisations to review progress under NLEP and enhance strategies for early detection, contact tracing, timely treatment and community-level interventions.

A key focus of the workshop was strengthening last-mile efforts to identify leprosy cases at an early stage and ensure that patients receive timely treatment. Participants also discussed measures to improve contact tracing and surveillance to help interrupt the transmission of the disease.

District-level experiences and best practices were shared during the workshop, providing an opportunity for peer learning among health officials. These discussions highlighted the importance of effective field-level implementation, community engagement and coordinated action for achieving better outcomes under NLEP.

The Ministry emphasised the need for continued capacity building of healthcare workers and stronger collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that leprosy control measures reach communities effectively.

The workshop is expected to further strengthen district-level implementation of NLEP and support the country's efforts towards early detection, timely treatment and interruption of leprosy transmission.
