Samba, August 30, 2026: Samba Police has foiled a major bovine smuggling attempt in the jurisdiction of Police Station Ghagwal, arresting one alleged bovine smuggler, rescuing 23 bovines and seizing the vehicle used for their illegal transportation.

According to police, a team from Police Station Ghagwal was conducting vehicle checking at NHW Naka Tapyal when it intercepted a truck bearing registration number HR55AH-0454. The vehicle was reportedly coming from the Kathua side and heading towards Samba.

During checking, police found 23 bovines inside the truck. The animals were allegedly tied in a cruel manner and were being transported without valid permission.

The arrested person has been identified as Arshad, son of Mohd Liyaqat, a resident of Gangoh Khalsa Nukadh, District Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Police said all 23 bovines were rescued and the truck was seized.

A case under FIR No. 86/2026, Sections 223 BNS and 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, has been registered at Police Station Ghagwal, and further investigation is underway.

Samba Police reiterated its commitment to curbing bovine smuggling and the illegal transportation of animals, stating that strict legal action will be taken against those found involved in such unlawful activities.
