Samba Police Detain Notorious Drug Peddler Under PITNDPS Act


Samba, August 14, 2026: In a major crackdown against the illegal drug trade, Samba Police has detained a notorious drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act and lodged him in District Jail Bhaderwah.

The detained person has been identified as Omkar Bhagat alias Gusha, son of Raj Kumar, a resident of Hamirpur, Marheen, in Kathua district.

According to Samba Police, the accused has been involved in multiple cases registered under the NDPS Act at Police Station Ghagwal in Samba district and Police Station Rajbagh in Kathua district. Police described him as a habitual drug peddler allegedly involved in the continued distribution of illicit drugs in the region.

Samba Police said that the repeated involvement of the accused in drug trafficking posed a serious threat to public health and the welfare of people, particularly the youth.

In view of his alleged continued involvement in illicit drug trafficking, the District Police Office Samba prepared and submitted a dossier along with connected documents to the office of the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.

Following this, a formal detention order was issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, under the PITNDPS Act, after which Omkar Bhagat alias Gusha was detained and lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah.

Samba Police reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against drug peddlers and smugglers and said that sustained efforts would continue to curb the drug menace and create a safer and drug-free society.
