Mission Shakti, Samba Holds Awareness Workshop on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality at GDC Ramgarh

Samba, Aug 27: Mission Shakti, Samba, in collaboration with ActionAid Association India and Government Degree College (GDC), Ramgarh, organised an awareness and sensitisation workshop on Gender Equality, Women’s Rights and Social Security at the college.

The programme focused on key issues related to women’s safety, dignity, rights and empowerment, including the POSH Act, SHe-Box mechanism, legal rights, free legal aid, women’s safety and support systems, health and well-being, gender equality and social security schemes.

The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. Ruchi Thakur, District Mission Coordinator, Mission Shakti, Samba. Principal GDC Ramgarh Prof. Meeru Oberoi, representatives of ActionAid Association India, DSP Sakshi Sharma, Dr. Sneha, Dr. Geetanjali from the Health Department and Advocate Hitesh Sharma, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, participated as dignitaries and resource persons.

Representatives of the Social Welfare Department, police personnel, ASHA workers and supervisors, besides students and faculty members, also attended the workshop.

The sessions provided detailed information on workplace safety, prevention of sexual harassment, grievance-redressal mechanisms, women’s legal rights, access to justice and free legal aid, health and hygiene, preventive healthcare and social security entitlements.

Speakers emphasised the importance of awareness, institutional support, equality, dignity and empowerment in ensuring a safer and more inclusive environment for women.

An interactive Question-and-Answer session was also held, allowing participants to seek practical guidance and clarification on issues concerning women’s rights, safety, health, legal assistance and social security.
