Kishtwar Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Recover 9 Grams of Heroin-Like Substance


Kishtwar, August 16, 2026: Continuing its sustained crackdown on drug trafficking, Kishtwar Police arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered approximately 9 grams of a heroin-like substance from his possession during a routine patrol.

According to police, a patrolling team from Police Post Hidyal, headed by the In-Charge Police Post Hidyal and operating under the supervision of the Additional SP Kishtwar and Dy. SP Headquarters Kishtwar, intercepted a person identified as Vivek Shan, son of Roshan Lal Shan, resident of Mata, Kishtwar.

During a personal search, approximately 9 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. The contraband was seized following the prescribed legal procedure.

In connection with the recovery, FIR No. 180/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kishtwar, and further investigation has been initiated.

SSP Kishtwar Naresh Singh-JKPS directed the investigating team to conduct a thorough investigation to establish the source and intended destination of the recovered contraband and identify other individuals who may be involved in the drug network.

Kishtwar Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and peddling and appealed to the public, particularly the youth, to stay away from drugs. Citizens were also urged to share information about drug-related activities with the police, with an assurance that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
