Jammu Police Foils Bovine Smuggling Bid, Rescues 9 Bovines
JAMMU, AUGUST 2026: Jammu Police, as part of its ongoing Operation Kamdhenu, foiled an alleged bovine smuggling attempt at Dhaleri and rescued nine bovines. Police also recovered a Tata Mobile and an unregistered motorcycle allegedly used for reconnaissance.
During a special naka at Dhaleri, police signalled a Tata Mobile bearing registration number JK02DU-3746 to stop. However, the driver allegedly fled from the naka.
The police party chased the vehicle, following which the suspected bovine smugglers abandoned the Tata Mobile along with the animals and fled under the cover of darkness.
Upon checking the vehicle, police rescued nine bovines, including four cows and five calves. An unregistered motorcycle, which was reportedly travelling ahead of the Tata Mobile and allegedly being used to check the route, was also recovered.
The Tata Mobile, motorcycle and rescued bovines have been taken into custody, while further legal proceedings have been initiated.
In connection with the incident, FIR No. 63/2026 has been registered at Police Station Khour, and an investigation is underway.
Jammu Police reiterated its commitment to Operation Kamdhenu and said strict action will continue against bovine smuggling and cruelty towards animals.
