J&K Police Kathua Arrests Second Accused in Malhar Theft Case, Stolen Ornaments Worth Lakhs Recovered


Kathua, August 22: J&K Police Kathua has arrested the second accused in a major theft case registered at Police Station Malhar and recovered stolen gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs of rupees.

The action was carried out under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma, IPS, as part of the police drive against property offences and theft.

The case is registered under FIR No. 11/2026 under Sections 305 and 331(3) of the BNS at Police Station Malhar.

Earlier, police had arrested Rustam Sahrab, a resident of Village Bhoond, Tehsil Basohli, in connection with the case. During the investigation, stolen gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs were recovered from his possession.

Taking the investigation forward, the police team arrested the second accused, identified as Akhtar Hussain, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Surjan Chalog, Tehsil Bani, District Kathua, who was found to be involved in the commission of the offence. His arrest was followed by the recovery of additional stolen ornaments worth lakhs.

Police said the investigation has also revealed the involvement of another accused, who is currently absconding. Teams have been deployed to trace and apprehend the remaining accused, while further recoveries are expected.

The operation was conducted by a dedicated team of Police Station Malhar, headed by the SHO Malhar, under the supervision of SP Operations Upper Kathua and DySP Operations Malhar.

The officers have been closely monitoring the investigation and directing the police team to ensure that all persons involved are brought to justice and the stolen property is recovered.

Further investigation in the case is underway.

Kathua Police reiterated its commitment to protecting the property and security of the public and said that sustained action will continue against thieves, habitual offenders and other elements involved in property-related crimes.
