Omar Abdullah intensified his demand for the restoration of J&K statehood: Reminded the Centre of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's earlier commitment
Jammu, July 12: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday intensified his demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, reminding the Centre of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's earlier commitment and questioning the continued delay in fulfilling the promise.
In a statement shared under the hashtag #OmarSpeaks, the Chief Minister said he had not forgotten the promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Referring to the Prime Minister's speech at Katra, Omar Abdullah said that the restoration of statehood was described as "Modi's promise" and asked why the commitment remains unfulfilled.
"The Prime Minister himself said at Katra that restoring our statehood was 'Modi's promise.' If that promise meant anything then, why is it still unfulfilled today?" Omar said. He further questioned BJP leaders in Jammu and Kashmir, asking why they were allowing the Prime Minister's promise to remain unfulfilled.
Stressing that the people expect results rather than repeated assurances, Omar said, "The people deserve action, not reminders of commitments that remain unkept." His remarks come amid the National Conference's renewed campaign for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, with the party also announcing a fresh phase of protests on the issue.
