New Delhi, July 29, 2026: The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, after an extensive debate, marking a major step to strengthen the integrity of India’s public examination system.

The Bill, which amends the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, was cleared by voice vote. It was piloted by Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr. Jitendra Singh, who detailed its provisions and responded to points raised by Members of Parliament during the discussion.

**Key provisions of the Bill include:**

- Stricter punishments for those involved in paper leaks and organised examination fraud

- Establishment of Special Fast-Track Courts

- Time-bound investigations

- Appointment of Special Public Prosecutors

- An expedited appellate mechanism to ensure swift justice

The legislation aims to deter unfair means in examinations conducted for central recruitment and entrance into central educational institutions, reinforcing transparency and fairness for millions of students.

Dr. Jitendra Singh described the amendments as a measure to protect the future of aspirants and uphold the sanctity of the examination process. The government has positioned the Bill as a strong response to concerns over examination malpractices, emphasising zero tolerance for paper-leak syndicates and organised fraud.

The Bill will now proceed to the Rajya Sabha for consideration. Once passed by both Houses and receiving Presidential assent, it will come into force as law.
