LG Approves Creation of 17 New Tehsils in Ladakh to Strengthen Grassroots Governance
Leh, July 12: In a major administrative reform, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh has approved the creation of 17 new tehsils, significantly expanding the Union Territory's revenue and administrative framework.
The decision is aimed at strengthening grassroots governance, improving access to public services, and ensuring more efficient administration in remote and far-flung areas of Ladakh. With the addition of these new tehsils, the total number of tehsils in the Union Territory has increased to 32, marking one of the biggest administrative reorganisations since Ladakh became a Union Territory.
The move is expected to bring government services closer to the people, enhance revenue administration, reduce travel time for residents, and improve the overall delivery of welfare schemes and public services across the region.
