India Flags Off First Indigenous Hydrogen-Powered Train, Marks Major Milestone in Green Mobility

India has taken a significant step towards sustainable transportation with the launch of its first indigenous hydrogen-powered train on the Jind–Sonipat route in Haryana. The train was flagged off from Jind, marking a historic milestone in Indian Railways' journey towards clean and eco-friendly mobility.

Developed using indigenous technology, the hydrogen-powered train showcases the innovation and engineering capabilities of Indian Railways and strengthens the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Powered by hydrogen fuel cells, the train produces electricity onboard while emitting only water vapour, making it a zero-emission alternative to conventional diesel-powered trains.

The launch places India among a select group of countries operating hydrogen-powered rail services and reflects the nation's commitment to cleaner, future-ready transportation and its long-term environmental goals. The initiative is expected to pave the way for wider adoption of green technology across the railway network.
