Samba, July 21: Following heavy rainfall in the upper hilly areas, the water level in the Basanter River has risen significantly, prompting the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to intensify safety measures across vulnerable locations in Samba district.

Officials said that continuous rainfall in the higher reaches has led to a sharp increase in the flow of seasonal streams, particularly the Sankhiya Nallah in Sumb. The overflowing water from these streams eventually drains into the Basanter River, causing a rapid rise in its water level.

In response, SDRF teams have been deployed along the riverbanks and nearby areas to spread awareness among residents. The teams are urging people to stay away from rivers, nallahs, and flood-prone areas, avoid unnecessary movement, and remain indoors unless essential.

Authorities have appealed to the public to strictly follow safety advisories and cooperate with the administration as the monsoon spell continues. Residents living near riverbanks have been advised to remain vigilant and immediately report any emergency to the concerned authorities.
