Samba Police Bust Gang Linked to Chandigarh Shooting Case; Main Accused Among Six Arrested
Samba, June 18, 2026: In a major breakthrough, Samba Police have busted a dangerous criminal gang operating across Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab. The gang was allegedly working under the directions of jailed gangster Rohit Kumar alias Makhan and was involved in extortion and several other criminal activities in both states.
During the investigation, the gang's name also surfaced in the recent high-profile Chandigarh shooting incident, in which a pharmacy employee was killed after assailants opened fire at a medical store in broad daylight. One of the prime accused in the case, Amit Kumar alias Sharabi, has been arrested by Samba Police.
According to police officials, gang leader Rohit Kumar alias Makhan was running the criminal network in collaboration with several gangsters based in Punjab and is believed to have played a key role in orchestrating multiple serious crimes.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
- Amit Kumar alias Sharabi, son of Omkar Nath, resident of Samba (main accused)
- Ajay Kumar, son of Ramesh Kumar, resident of Samba
- Manik Sahotra, son of Diwan Chand, resident of Ramgarh Tehsil, Samba district
- Vivek Mehra, son of Vijay Kumar, resident of Chak Manga Rakwal, Samba
- Sunny Mehra, son of Kuldeep Raj, resident of Badhori, Bari Brahmana, Samba district
- Aryan Sharma, son of Amarjeet Sharma, resident of Bypass Kunjwani, Jammu district
Police further stated that two previously arrested accused, Sunny Mehra and Aryan Sharma, have been handed over to Chandigarh Police for further investigation in connection with the Chandigarh shooting case.
Acting on the disclosures made by the arrested accused, police recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including:
- One AK-47 magazine
- 38 live AK-47 rounds
- 10 pistol cartridges
- Two country-made pistols
- One country-made katta (improvised firearm)
- One sharp-edged weapon (Toka)
- ₹18,000 in cash
Samba Police said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other absconding members and associates of the gang. Officials believe that the successful operation will help curb criminal activities in the district and strengthen public safety.
