Record Heatwave Grips Kashmir Valley: Srinagar Sizzles at 35.3°C
Srinagar, June 30: Kashmir Valley is reeling under its first major heatwave of the summer, with Srinagar recording the season's highest temperature of 35.3°C, one of the highest June temperatures witnessed in decades. The mercury remained 4–8°C above normal across several parts of the Valley, bringing unusually hot and uncomfortable conditions.
The intense heat has increased electricity demand, raised concerns over power supply, and prompted health authorities to advise people to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Residents have sought relief in parks, rivers, and other cooler locations as the Valley experiences an uncommon spell of scorching weather.
According to the Meteorological Department, the hot and dry conditions are expected to ease soon, with rain, thunderstorms, and a noticeable drop in temperatures likely from July 1–3, bringing much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave.
