Omar Abdullah Intensifies Push for Restoration of J&K Statehood
Srinagar, June 14: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has intensified efforts for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, making the issue a central focus of his recent political engagements.
During a recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Omar Abdullah raised the demand for the early restoration of statehood and discussed several issues related to the region's economy, development, infrastructure, employment generation, and public welfare. He emphasized that restoring statehood would strengthen democratic institutions and enhance public participation in governance.
The meeting comes amid growing political activity by the ruling National Conference, which has been pressing the Centre to fulfill its commitment on statehood. The party has also announced plans to stage a protest in New Delhi during the upcoming Parliament session to highlight the demand.
National Conference president Farooq Abdullah has also reiterated confidence that the Centre will honor its promise regarding statehood restoration. He recently stated that Prime Minister Modi had assured Omar Abdullah that the commitment to restore statehood would be fulfilled.
The issue of statehood remains one of the most significant political demands in Jammu and Kashmir, with the National Conference continuing to seek broader political support at both regional and national levels.
