Doda, June 3: A sudden flash flood triggered by heavy rainfall struck the Thathri area of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir, causing panic among residents and damaging property in several localities. The floodwaters, carrying mud, stones, and debris from the surrounding hills, surged through low-lying areas and nullahs, inundating roads, shops, and residential pockets within minutes.

Eyewitnesses reported a massive flow of water rushing into parts of Thathri town and nearby villages, leaving several vehicles trapped under debris and disrupting normal life. Mudslides and waterlogging were also reported along roads passing through the market area, hampering vehicular movement and creating difficulties for commuters.

Following the incident, local authorities and emergency teams rushed to the affected areas to assess the damage and assist residents. Several families were shifted to safer locations after floodwaters entered their homes. Officials are monitoring the situation closely and have urged people living near vulnerable streams and landslide-prone areas to remain alert.

No loss of life has been officially reported so far, but property damage and disruption to daily activities have been significant. BDO office Doda is significantly damaged in the flash floods. Authorities have appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions as rainfall is expected to continue in parts of the Chenab Valley region.
