Srinagar, June 14: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified security and administrative preparations ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra and upcoming Muharram observances, with multiple review meetings and coordinated security measures being undertaken across the Union Territory.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi to review security and operational preparedness for the Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to commence on July 3. He directed all security agencies to establish a robust multi-layered security grid along the pilgrimage routes and stressed the extensive use of modern technology, including drones, CCTV surveillance, advanced monitoring systems, and QR-code-based verification mechanisms to ensure the safety of pilgrims.

The Home Minister also emphasized strengthening security at major tourist destinations and ensuring seamless arrangements related to pilgrim registration, accommodation, healthcare services, disaster management, and weather-based movement regulation. Senior officers from the Central Armed Police Forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and other agencies have been directed to maintain close supervision throughout the Yatra period.

Meanwhile, the School Education Department has directed that no examinations be conducted in schools across Kashmir from June 23 to June 27 in view of Muharram observances, facilitating students' participation in religious events and processions.

Security forces, including the National Security Guard (NSG), Special Operations Group (SOG), Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army, and Central Armed Police Forces, have also stepped up coordination and operational preparedness. Regular security reviews, intelligence-based monitoring, anti-sabotage checks, and area domination exercises are being carried out to ensure peaceful conduct of both the Amarnath Yatra and Muharram-related events.

Officials have reiterated that maintaining public safety, communal harmony, and smooth conduct of major religious events remains a top priority, with all departments working in close coordination to ensure a secure and incident-free environment across Jammu and Kashmir.
